About Pauline Adams

I was born in Williamsburg, Virginia, and when I was 2 years old, my family and I moved to Oak Park, Illinois. My first memories of drawing are in a little apartment, by a window, listening to ambulance sirens rushing to the hospital nearby. I kept drawing people, and eventually, the pencil became a natural extension of my hand.

When I was 5 years old, I moved to Athens, Greece where I spent 10 years living with my grandparents. While they strongly discouraged me from pursuing my art because they were concerned about a possible adverse impact on my studies and future career goals, I was constantly drawing–in the back of my books, on old newspapers, on desks, wherever I could, and generally “in hiding”. After finishing my graduate work in Economics later in the States, I was free to pursue my artistic interests in my spare time.

Later, I discovered ballroom dancing, which I eventually pursued competitively. The world of ballroom dancing was full of excitement, color, energy, and expression–as I got lured into it, my paints followed–I do tend to paint what I love.

Since then, I have continued to redefine my focus and goals regarding my art and grow as an artist. I have expanded my work beyond my favorites–portraits–to include landscapes, particularly Mediterranean seascapes; still life; city life; and scenes depicting overall life. For example, in 2002, and for the first time, I discovered the joy of landscapes, in particular, Mediterranean seascapes, and have been very prolific in this type of work since then. My goal is to keep adding to my existing collection with more paintings of Greece, Italy , and other mediterranean areas. In the meantime, I will continue to work on dance-related themes and portraits. I hope you join me in my journey.
